Dress
I am having my dress designed and made by my talented friend, Sarah Templin. You can buy her dresses from doubledutch Boutique in Hampden and she will soon have an Etsy shop. We met on Sunday so Sarah could show me her designs for the dress and I love what she came up with. I am starting to feel like a beautiful bride!

Sneak Peek
We have booked the venue for our ceremony/reception! It will be in the Sequoia Room at the Oregon Ridge Lodge. The lodge, built in 1964, used to be a ski lodge when there was skiing in Hunt Valley, who knew.
Oregon Ridge is pretty special to me. I spent so many summers swimming in the quarry, fishing and hiking. So many birthday parties, family picnics and now my wedding. I love the lodge, it's perfect for our rustic/winter theme and has a 20 foot long fireplace!

Fat and Happy
Our good friends Gretchen and James took us out for a delicious engagement dinner at the Peking Gourmet Inn in Falls Church, Va.

The food was amazing! We had Peking duck (of course!) carved table side and pork and garlic shoots, plus a few mojitos! Nolen had chrysanthemum tea which we hoped would have an actual flower in the tea pot, but it was just a lame teabag.

It was one of the best meals we had in a looong time, plus it was awesome to spend time with our friends! Nolen has been dreaming about duck ever since! Thanks soo much, Gretchen and James!

We are engaged!

Nolen popped the question on Christmas morning. I knew something was up Christmas Eve because before we went to bed he had to check the lock on the front door three times. I was either getting a ring or a wii! On Christmas morning he let me sleep in (which is unusual) because I was sick with a bad head/chest cold and made some cinnamon rolls for breakfast. While opening presents Nolen tried to fake me out by putting a small, Tiffany blue bag in my stocking but inside were plastic, monster finger puppets.
After we opened all the presents, Nolen had one last gift for me. He got down on his knee and asked me to unwrap the present. Inside was a wooden box, one side was darker and had knots and marks on it and the other side was lighter and unmarked. He said that he knew he wasn't perfect but that I was the perfect girl for him and together our relationship and love is strong. He then separated the two sides of the box to reveal the engagement ring.

It was really emotionally and I was floored by how much thought Nolen put into the box. He designed it himself and had his old college roommate, Stephen St. Amant, build it. It was truly wonderful and romantic!
Both of our families couldn't be happier for us. We haven't set a date yet but we are looking at Late January or early February 2010. We want a winter wedding and I am thinking about a white and wood theme with silver/gray accents. Let the planning commence!
